Theme 2019

This year the roundtable theme will be “Removing Barriers, Embracing Strangers”

The RHP roundtable is a wonderful opportuniuty for followers of Jesus across Europe engaged in supporting and reaching out to refugees and asylum seekers to come together.

Meet our Plenary Speaker for RHP Roundtable in Sarajevo
Born and raised in Greece, George Kalantzis is Professor of Theology and Fellow of the Humanitarian Disaster Institute at Wheaton College in Chicago. On the academic level, he is engaged the intersection of theology and ethics, with a particular emphasis on the issues of wealth and poverty, as well as Church-State relations. On a practical and personal level, Dr. Kalantzis also travels extensively in sub-Saharan Africa and East Asia and has taught in Haiti and Japan after the major earthquakes and humanitarian crisis. In association with International Association for Refugees, he has also taught at the UNHCR Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya for the past four years.

He is the author and editor of a number of books, but as our plenary speaker, he will be focusing on the issue: “Transforming Humanitarianism into Philanthropia.” In our time together, we will be exploring the following questions: Is there a difference between ‘welcoming the stranger’ and ‘embracing the stranger’? How is the Christian response of welcoming strangers different than a secular or state agency? What is the difference between humanitarianism and the Christian idea of philanthropia?

During the roundtable attendees will be able to:

  • Take part in various workshops with practical application to their ministry
  • Hear encouraging stories and inspirational challenges from around the continent
